Altering the screen resolution is a useful way of arranging the screen size to suit the vision of the user. The higher the number eg 1024x768, the more you can get onto the screen. You will see more of 'the page' you are working on but all the text, icons etc. will be smaller. The lowest resolution is normally 640x480. This can be a useful way of 'magnifying' what is on the screen but you will have to scroll around a bit to see all of the 'page'. A good resolution if you want to see all you need but want everything to appear bigger is 800x600 which is the resolution that this web site is designed in. (and best viewed at) . To change screen resolution:
4. Move the slider for screen area to 800x600 and click 'OK'. Whilst on this 'display properties' window it is worth mentioning the 'effects' tab. If you click on this, then you will see a box 'use large icons' under 'visual effects'. If you click on this all the icons on the desktop, and 'explorer' etc. will be magnified. This can be useful but, again, you can't get as many icons on the screen. You have to scroll around the screen more to see everything.
There is a balance between making things bigger and fitting as much as possible on to the screen. Playing around with these settings is the only way to see what works best. The general rule is that: you should use the least possible amount of magnification to see comfortably.
